Elkon, a manufacturer of concrete batching plants and machinery, is helping to build the Dubai Creek tower which will be the tallest in the world. It will be more than one kilometer in height when completed in 2020.
Elkon concrete plants is the supplier for the tower that will be the tallest in the world with a height of more than 1 kilometer.
The tallest structure in the world
Elkon is helping to build it. Its height? More than ONE KILOMETER !!
Elkon Concrete Batching Plants Madrid, November 23, 2018 /PressReleasePoint/ – Man´s obsession to build increasingly higher structures, which become symbols of progress, prosperity, power and development, is historic. Wanting to conquer the sky and defy gravity is a very old human aspiration.
We are fascinated by the construction of skyscrapers and towers, from the biblical and mythical tower of Babel to the Burj Khalifa building in Dubai, currently the tallest skyscraper in the world with a height of 828 meters. The desire to touch the sky has been evident throughout history with the construction of increasingly high buildings: the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Lincoln Cathedral, the Washington Monument, the Eiffel Tower and many buildings of the 20th century such as the Empire State Building, the Willis Tower, the Petronas Tower and the Taipei 101 Building, among others.
The future Dubai Creek Tower, currently under construction, is located in Dubai and will have a height between 928 and 1,400 m (the final height will be announced in 2020). It will have three observation decks, a cafeteria, numerous activity areas and rotating balconies that will offer 360° views of Dubai Creek Harbour. After sunset, the tower will emit a beacon of light from its highest point.
The project was commissioned by Emaar Properties and construction began in October 2016 with the aim of having the tower finished for Expo2020. The designer of the Dubai Creek Tower, Santiago Calatrava, was inspired by the lily flower, very common in desert areas, and traditional minarets. The design combines traditional Islamic architecture with modern design and engineering elements without forgetting sustainability. The result is a unique and very different structure.
The Dubai Creek Tower will become one of the most emblematic buildings in the world. A work of great vision, innovation and excellence in construction that will add to the important skyline of Dubai and will elevate the position of the city as a leading world metropolis in the future.
The work presents enormous challenges such as integration with the landscape, sustainability, complex engineering and the need for cutting-edge technology for its construction. For example, how to pump concrete to a height of many hundreds and withstand the weight of more than 1,000 meters of structure. The project requires very high performance concrete, the use of up to six different types of cement, extremely precise weighing of the ingredients, a concrete production capacity of 400 m³ / hour and continuous production 6 days and 24 hours a day per week in extreme conditions.
Having supplied more than 30 million cubic meters of concrete in multiple projects of great importance in Dubai, the contracted company evaluated many concrete batching plant suppliers due to the extreme environmental and working conditions. Finally, Elkon was selected for its extensive experience in the industry across the globe. To meet all the requirements of the project, two stationary Elkomix-200 concrete plants were installed.
The Commercial Director of Elkon Plantas de Hormigón, the official distributor in Spain, Jesús Martín, said: “Elkon has experience in many large-scale projects around the world, such as the US$34 billion Ichthys natural gas project in Australia, one of the largest in the world, and the project for the construction of 100,000 homes in Bismayah New City in Iraq. However, participating in such an iconic and simply spectacular project like this one demonstrates what Elkon can really do. It is a very demanding and difficult project but as Jerry Dunn said: “Do not limit your challenges. Challenge your limits.” It is the only way to improve and grow as a company.”
Elkon manufactures mobile, compact, on-site and stationary concrete batching plants as well as concrete block machines, precast concrete plants, transport systems, mixers (planetary, single vertical shaft, single and twin horizontal shafts), concrete pumps , concrete recycling plants, cement silos and cement supply systems.
